SUMMARY: how to carry out E250 maintenance?

The general consensus says that old systems should not be left powered down
for a long time, as old disks and other equipement may fail due to thermal
changes. So, maintenance should be limited to removing the dust, and even that
should be done with caution.
My personal experience is that the triple-fan tray is the piece that tends to
fail, especially the middle fan. I have asked the price for the original
replacement from Sun, and it costs 180Euros which IMHO is so - so considering that
the 3 motors have ball bearings so they can't be too cheap. I am currently
investigating the possibility of obtaining a similar motor and replacing
the faulty one instead of just replacing the whole tray. I will post
experiences to this list if there's any interest.

Many many thanks to all those who replied.

Cheers,
Athanasios
