Original message below. Thanks to all who replied - general consensus is
:

1.) Use iostat -En to find the serial number of the disk. I completely
forgot about that one, which is annoying as I was using that to examine
the number of Errors that occurred :(

2.) When in doubt, try running an analyze read on the disk - that will
produce a lot of activity on the disk that will make it very obvious
when you are standing in front of it and watching the LEDs.

3.) The slots should match up to to what prtconf says - in other words,
it will be in the top right hand slot.

Many thanks again to everyone who responded.

Subject: Identifying disks on a V240

Hi all,

I have a bad disk on a V240 that is constantly providing me with errors
(see below), and it gives it's physical path as
/pci@1c,600000/scsi@2/sd@3,0 (sd3). So I go into /dev, and do the ls -l
| grep trick, and I find that the disk in question is c1t3d0s0. How do I
ascertain which drive this is, when looking at the front of the server ?
The disk slots are labelled 0-3 in the following format :

23
01

So am I right in assuming that the disk in question is in slot 3, at the
top right hand side ? prtconv -vp also provides information that seems
to corroborate this :

disk3: '/pci@1c,600000/scsi@2/disk@3,0'
disk2: '/pci@1c,600000/scsi@2/disk@2,0'
disk1: '/pci@1c,600000/scsi@2/disk@1,0'
disk0: '/pci@1c,600000/scsi@2/disk@0,0'

But I wanted to get a definitive answer before I go ahead and replace
the drive...

Original error message in /var/adm/messages :

[ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci@1c,600000/scsi@2/sd@3,0 (sd3):

Many thanks,
