Thanks to Scott Spencer, Larry McCann, and Brett Lymn for responding to my inquiry. It seems there are a few ways to find out if the second backplane is installed or not. 1) #prtdiag does work but you need a another machine as a point of reference to compare it against. 2) #luxadm display FCloop/FCloop2. This is what I ended up using. 3) #prtfru. Brett Lymn suggested #fruadm which I couldn't find but #prtfru showed the second backplane slot as empty.
