First, thank you all for your great assistance. Basically, DNS was so badly setup that I ended up nuking the named.conf and rebuild it and re-edit ALL the forward/reverse file. There were no IN for A/PTR records and missing NS references, etc. too many errors to troubleshoot, so I decided to start fresh, as fresh as possible. /var/adm/messages do not display any named error messages, things are resolving as they should. Regards, -- Mike ---------- original message ---------- I'm having named issue, ps shows named is running, nslookup just timeout, telnet to the ip port 53 allows me to connect. named-checkconf does not return any errors, /var/named.conf looks fine. /etc/resolv.conf /etc/hosts /etc/nsswitch.conf all looks like it should. 10.0.1.253 is the named server itself. I did not install the dns stuff, so I'm running out of places to look for problems. $ ps -ef | grep named root 758 1 0 19:06:56 ? 0:00 /usr/local/RRBind/sbin/named root 777 722 0 19:10:59 pts/1 0:00 grep named $ nslookup 10.0.1.253 *** Can't find server name for address 10.0.1.253: Non-existent host/domain *** Default servers are not available $ telnet 10.0.1.253 53 Trying 10.0.1.253... Connected to 10.0.1.253. Escape character is '^]'. hardware: sun4u with Solaris 8 running BIND 9.2.1 I need to get this DNS resolve to get some voip servers installation going, so urgently needing help, thanks.
