Hi Gurus,
Thanks to all of you u who had replied.....
Here's the summary..

It seemed to be due to the firmware of the new HBA(firmaware:- 1.80a) not
matching with the old 3 HBA's( firmware :- 1.90a). Hence, removed the new HBA
from v1280 and installed it back on the v440 server and upgraded the firmware
to 1.90a. Then installed it back on to the v1280 server and VIOLA ... the
server detected the new HBA. Also the OS detected the new HBA in "lputil"...

Once again Thanks...

SS

let's see.

the card won't work.
the card won't work in slot a.
the card won't work in slot b.

known good card will work.
known good card will work in slot a.
known good card will work in slot b.

it must be the systemboard, huh?

have you tried removing an existing card to see if the new card is
configured and used?

you should use basic hardware troubleshooting procedures and trust the
results.

a card has several different logical parts.
one part can fail while the other parts continue to respond.
the part reporting to the opb can work while other parts do not.
the part queried by prtdiag can work while the other parts do not.
