First off thanks to the following for even taking the time to respond. It is truly appreciated: Edward Farrar (hey buddy it was good to hear from you after such a long time) Adam Mazza Sam Nelson And of course to the multiple "out of office"..... what can I say but that it was an absolute joy to receive them :oP Summary (original posting is below): The problem pointed to a bad community string and in this particular host the string belonged to the local host. So I had to boot off a CD since the looping started before I could get into single user mode. Patch 108869-26 ( snmp/mibiisa patch ) corrects a software bug that ISM and SNMP required to be made in the /etc/snmp/conf/snmpdx.acl file as a workaround. However, that change is no longer valid after installing this patch, and having it causes the SNMP daemons to fill a system log file with errors. The snmpx.acl file should contain the following: acl = { { communities = public, private access = read-only managers = * } > ______________________________________________ > From: Santomauro, Deborah > Sent: Friday, March 18, 2005 6:00 AM > To: Sun Managers > Subject: March 16 Patch Cluster broke the system > > Gurus, > > I just finished installing the latest patch cluster from March 16 on > my sun box (Sparc 10 - Solaris 8) and during reboot it started going > into a loop displaying the following message: > > /usr/lib/snmp/smpd.dx: session_open () failed for a pdu received from > localhost.32798 > > I've searched the archives and have attempted a google search and have > come up with nothing.
