Thanks to everyone who replied - much appreciated. The problem turns out to be the interface attempting to autonegotiate and failing. I simply forced the interface into 100fdx, and it worked fine. Others have reported it as being a hardware error - so it's worthwhile checking your autonegotiation settings before raising a ticket with Sun Support. -Mark --Original post follows-- Hi all, A strange problem has developed on one of our servers, a Sun Fire V100. The dmfe1 interface is connected to our backups network, and around the time that a network backup kicks off (via Veritas NetBackup), _lots_ of the following messages are logged to syslog : Mar 4 04:04:00 hostname.example.net dmfe: [ID 801725 kern.info] NOTICE: dmfe1: TX stall detected after 40 ticks in state 7; automatic recovery initiated This has only recently started to happen - sometime in the last few days. The system has been up 107 days with no interruptions to service prior to that. The backups seem to complete OK, but the errors are still perturbing me. I have Googled for variations on this error message, and so far I have only been able to turn up one result [1], with someone describing the same problem as myself. System is a SF V100, Solaris 9 4/04 (5.9 Generic_117171-02).
