And the answers   (apart from the dozen or so of  ' I'm ooto') are:

yes. should be ok. 

do it at init 1  or  boot in single user non cluster mode:  boot -sx the 
nodes one by
one.

take UFS dump backup of OS slices before starting, so you have 
"disaster recovery" fallback
