Thanks all replies and your valuable comment. I agreed most of us that email application is not CPU-intensive but I/O. A large CPU cache that crunching a common set of data in memory fast may not help in this aspect. At the same time, we are moving the mailbox to a new SAN storage array that increase the total IO throughput. As our 280R (750MHz UltraSPARC-III) was a bit dated and it is time to look for replacement.
