yes there was. OK, feel silly now. It said "unqualified hostname". Duh. All fixed now. It's been like this for a long time, so I just figured it be a tough one. I should have spent more time on this one, my error. So lesson is: always check logs! This machine logs aloot, so I missed it before, but I grep'd it for "sendmail" which I can't miss it then.
