Thanks to Stan Pietkiewicz and Tim Chipman for lending their experience to
this issue.

Here's the issue:

>I'm trying to install Solaris 9 x86 on a Tyan Thunder Ss2721ugn MB with an
IDE CDROM and 2 36GB u320 SCSI drives. This has the Adaptec 7902 u320
controller o it >like the Sun V65x servers.

>It loads the adpu320.bef driver and when I am asked where I want to install
from it shows the CDROM, NIC and the 2 SCSI drives. I have attempted to
install from both >the CDROM and the Network but when I get past the system
identification portion of the install it craps out with the following:

>No disks found

>When its configuring /dev and /devices it states:

>Warning: timeout on target 0 lun 0 initiating recovery

>Warning: timeout on target 0 lun 0 initiating recovery

>Warning: timeout on target 1 lun 0 initiating recovery

>Warning: timeout on target 1 lun 0 initiating recovery

>Warning: timeout on target 0 lun 0 initiating recovery

>Warning: timeout on target 0 lun 0 initiating recovery

>Warning: timeout on target 1 lun 0 initiating recovery

>Warning: timeout on target 1 lun 0 initiating recovery

>I have successfully installed to a spare 20Gb IDE hard drive. Anyone have
any idea what's going on? I've read a couple of snippets about problems with
ACPI and >Solaris 9 x86 but I'm not sure how to resolve the problem.

Stan suggested that HostRaid might need to be disabled as it only works for
Windows environments. This MB actually doesn't come with Host RAID enabled.
You have to download a SCSI BIOS update to enable its functionality.

Tim mentioned he had this problem with Solaris 8 x86. He pointed me to a
summary he had posted here:

I disabled the BIOS setting for ACPI but still had the timeouts show up.

I went through the Motherboards setup program and found 2 settings in the
chipset's ICH3 South Bridge Configuration. There is an IOAPIC and Extended
IOAPIC setting. Once these were disabled the timeouts stopped and the disks
were recognized.

Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person to use
the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.
