Hi all, Thanks to the following people for their input: Bradley Alan Anthony Talltree Marco Supino But I have tested the 'hard code' method and it seems to work just fine, my only concern is that the '+' sign indicates to the O/S that it should retrieve the netmask from /etc/netmasks (netmask database) but it still does not work My /etc/hostname.hme1 file looks like this now: hostname-hme1 group netgroup broadcast + netmask 255.255.255.128 -failover deprecated standby up If anybody has an explanation to why the netmask is not being retrieved from /etc/netmasks please let me know. The IP addresses of the interfaces are Class C and their netmasks is supposed to be 255.255.255.128 but when the machine is rebooted the interface comes up with 255.255.255.0. My /etc/hostname.hme1 file looks like this: hostname-hme1 group netgroup broadcast + netmask + -failover deprecated standby up My /etc/netmasks file looks like this: 196.*.*.0 255.255.255.128 Could I just substitute the + sign after netmask with 255.255.255.128 to 'hard code' it? I am considering creating a script to set these netmasks. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
