Hi and thanks to all who replied, The most common answer I have got back is that I cannot apply the firmware to an "Off the Shelf" disk. But it looks like a don't need to, many people have got back to me saying that they have been using these disks for many years with zero problems. The biggest problem is that Sun will not support the system once I replace the disk. But if I had support Sun would be replacing the disk anyway ;) Thanks to Jay Lessert, Hichael Morton, Eugene Schmidt, Miller Sutfin, Anthony A. D. Talltree, Charles Rawls. ############################################################## Original Post ############################################################## Hi, Is it possible to apply sun disk firmware onto an "Off the Shelf" Seagate ST336607LC 36GB scsi disk? Or do we need to worry about it? The disks will be for U80's/E450's/420's. A sun service provider has told us that there is a difference between buying the disk from a retail supplier and buying this disk from Sun. The difference is that Sun apply different Firmware (and also the spud mounting bracket).
