Problem summary: A new, patched SunOS 5.8 Generic_108528-24 install on a dual-processor E250 was hanging on shutdown. I'd tracked the problem down to a K41slpd script. Casper Dik provided the answer and solution: > > You've been hit by bug: > > 4837368 K40slpd causes Solaris shutdown to hang > > or possibly: > > 4471576 slpd shutdown can unnecessarily start JVM > > (the fix for which added the [ -f $conf ] test in the "stop" branch of > the init script) > > Casper > Jose Luis Martinez supplied the following suggestion, should I ever wish to actually run slpd (second item): > > Two options: > 1) Disable the script if you don't use slpd. > 2) Get sure it executes before rpc dies, to do this > mv /etc/rc0.d/K41slpd /etc/rc0.d/K41pslpd > mv /etc/rcS.d/K41slpd /etc/rcS.d/K41pslpd > > or change K41 by K40. Thank you, gentlemen! P.S.: I re-searched SunSolve, just to see if I'd missed something I shouldn't have and unnecessarily bothered the list, and still came up bupkis. In closing, I'd also like to thank: SANTA Giovanni <giovanni.santa@globalvalue.it> SreenivasaRao Vadalasetty <sreenivasarao_vadalasetty@adp.com> Magnusson Johan <Johan.Magnusson@fujitsu-siemens.com> "Badinter, George" <george.badinter@citigroup.com> for their ever-so-helpful "out of the office" auto-replies. I don't know how I would have *ever* survived knowing they weren't going to be there for me. -- Jim Seymour | PGP Public Key available at: jseymour_at_LinxNet.com | http://www.uk.pgp.net/pgpnet/pks-commands.html http://jimsun.LinxNet.com | _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Thu Oct 30 17:46:40 2003
