First of all, thanks to: Jagtar Ghuman Girguis, Ashraf Jim DeSpain Mccormick, Josh C for letting me know they are out of the office. Weather was great, I wish I could've been out of the office as well. Also thanks to Anderson Baptist for using a brain-dead antispam measure that requires three-way confirmation that I'm not sending a spam, and would've required me to copy and paste a three-lines long URL to confirm. This is a non-summary. I have not received any replies from this list. However, my friendly Sun rep confirmed that this is a known issue, and they are trying to see what could be done. He also noted that the problem really is a Gnome one, and the same behavior could be seen between different versions of Gnome. -- Christophe Dupre System Administrator, Scientific Computation Research Center Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Troy, NY USA Phone: (518) 276-2578 - Fax: (518) 276-4886 ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Mon, 15 Sep 2003 16:04:05 -0400 (EDT) From: Christophe Dupre <duprec@scorec.rpi.edu> To: "sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org" <sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org> Subject: Gnome2 on Solaris 9 & Red Hat We run a number of desktop machines running Solaris 9 and Red Hat 9. Red Hat 9 uses GNOME2 by default, and we're considering installing GNOME2 on Solaris 9 (it is my understanding that Solaris 9 8/03 comes with GNOME2 by default). However - we have NFS shared home directories, and configuration files seem to collide: a user who has used Red Hat 9 before get an empty Solaris 9 GNOME desktop, and the reverse is true. Is there an easy solution ? We don't care that the two desktops not be integrated and preferences not be carried from one OS to the other. -- Christophe Dupre System Administrator, Scientific Computation Research Center Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Troy, NY USA Phone: (518) 276-2578 - Fax: (518) 276-4886 _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagers _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Thu Sep 18 13:42:20 2003
