Hi, Didn't find a fix as such but have solved the basic problem. My solution was to upgrade the base Solaris from 01/01/ to 02/02, at which point the pkgadd for Volume Manager worked. Still no idea why it was failing on the lower base release. I had tried various patching KJP18, KJP21 plus supplementals but no joy. SUN are currently still working through the truss output of the original install session so hopefully they will be able to tell me what caused the failure. -------------- originally------------------------ I'm trying to re-install vxvm as part of an upgrade on a V880 and getting the following: Installing VxVM for Solaris 8 The following Sun patch(s) are required for Solaris 8. Sun patch(s): 111413 Continue installation? [y,n,q,?] (default: n): y Using </> as the package base directory. ## Processing package information. ## Processing system information. 16 package pathnames are already properly installed. ## Verifying package dependencies. ## Checking for conflicts with packages already installed. The following files are already installed on the system and are being used by another package: /usr/lib/vxvm <attribute change only> * - conflict with a file which does not belong to any package. Installation of <VRTSvxvm> was suspended (administration). No changes were made to the system. I've not been able to find out what the problem is. I know it's not space. AFAICT I have all the pre-req's. I'm wondering if it's due to the presence of a supplementary kernel patch which means the system shows SunOS crasher 5.8 Generic_114018-01 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-880 This is on top of 108528-18. We have 111413-10 in place. Any ideas anyone? Archive searches have produced rsults on similar errors but nothing which quite matches. _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Sat Sep 6 08:25:40 2003
