Thanks Andy Hardy, Eugene Schmidt, Edward Valencia, and Bodenstedt, Cathy M. With all your kindly help I have solved my problem. I have ask the question about having problem to find ehternet card. Original message: Hi everyone, I have installed Salaris 8 on an old SUN Ultra 1 SPARC machine. When I boot the machine I will get the message as follow: SC Control: EWP:0 IAP:0 FATAL:0 WAKEUP:0 BXIR:0 BPOR:0 SXIR:0 SPOR:1 POR:0 Probing Memory Bank #0 32 + 32 : 64 Megabyes Probing Memory Bank #1 16 + 16 : 32 Megabyes Probing Memory Bank #2 32 + 32 : 64 Megabyes Probing Memory Bank #3 32 + 32 : 64 Megabyes Probing UPA Slot at 1e, 0 SUNW ffb probing /sbus@1f,0 at 0,0 nothing there probing /sbus@1f,0 at 1,0 nothing there SUN Ultra 1 UPA/SBus (UltraSPARC 143MHz), Keyboard Present OpenBoot 3.3 224MB memory installed. serial #8436875 Ethernet address 8:0:20:80:bc:8b Host ID 8080bc8b I don't if there is a problem on booting since I got these two message here probing /sbus@1f,0 at 0,0 nothing there probing /sbus@1f,0 at 1,0 nothing there And also after booting, I tried to check the net work configaration and use the command ifconfig at the root prompt and get the following message #ifconfig -a lo0: flags=100849<UP, LOOPBACK, RUNNING, MULTICAST, IPv4> mtu 8232 index 1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000 I think it should also display "hme:flags=xxxxxxx..." . But for some reasons, it doesn't recoganize my ethernect card. Does anyone have the same experience? Is it because I got the message "probing /sbus@1f,0 at 0,0 nothing there"? What does this mean and how to solve it? I really appreciate all your help! The answer is because I didn't do the plumb. So the solutions is grep -w hme /etc/path_to_inst ifconfig hme0 plumb ifconfig -a Thanks all Mei _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Tue Aug 19 12:06:22 2003
