Apologies for this very late summary, but the problem has only just been solved. Thanks to the following people for all their ideas & help: * Harry Hoffman * Jonathan V Hays * Darren Dunham * Ralf van Dooren * Dan Burton * Allen Wooden There were a number of problems with my jumpstart configuration, which were changed as follows: * When specifying DNS as the name_server, in the sysidcfg file, I had to have a "finish script" in order to stop the installation becoming interactive. This then needed to be referenced within the rules file. * The location of the profile, as specified in the rules file, needed to be relative to the location of the sysidcfg file. > -----Original Message----- > From: Hardy, Andy > Sent: 26 June 2003 13:34 > To: Sun Managers Mailing List (E-mail) > Subject: problems with jumpstart > > When I try & "boot net - install" the jumpstart client, the > installation on the client, is not non-interactive. > Does anyone have any idea whether there is something wrong with my > configuration, or is there a trick that I have missed, to allow for a > non-interactive client install ? > > I have built one server (hostname "white"), to be the boot, install > & config server. > I have populated the relevant files with the clients details. ie. > /etc/hosts & /etc/ethers. > The server is running Solaris 8 & has the latest patch cluster > installed. > The clients name is "firewall_new" > > After running the add_install_client script as follows: > > ./add_install_client -e <MAC address of client> -i <IP address of client> > -s white:/scratch/jumpstart_images/firewall01 -c > white:/scratch/jumpstart_images/firewall01 -p > white:/scratch/jumpstart_images/firewall01/sysidcfgdir > firewall_new.cellops.com sun4u > > I get the following output: > > cleaning up preexisting install client "firewall_new" > removing firewall_new from bootparams > removing /etc/bootparams, since it is empty > removing /tftpboot/inetboot.SUN4U.Solaris_8-1 > updating /etc/bootparams > copying inetboot to /tftpboot > > I run the check script & get a rules.ok file in return > > All the relevant files seem to be ok: > > /etc/bootparams > > firewall_new > root=white:/scratch/jumpstart_images/firewall01/Solaris_8/Tools/Boot > install=white:/scratch/jumpstart_imag > es/firewall01 boottype=:in > sysid_config=white:/scratch/jumpstart_images/firewall01/sysidcfgdir > install_config=white:/scr > atch/jumpstart_images/firewall01 rootopts=:rsize=32768 > > sysidcfg file > > # sysidcfg file for firewall installs # > timezone=GB > timeserver=localhost > system_locale=en_GB > name_service=OTHER {domain_name=cellops.com name_server=<DNS > server>.cellops.com(<IP address>)} > network_interface=primary {hostname=firewall_new ip_address=172.16.128.130 > netmask=255.255.240.0 protocol_ipv6=no default_route=<IP address of > default route>} > root_password=8N3tfXD96hH5R > security_policy=NONE > terminal=vt100 > timezone=GB > > firewall_class > > # Configuration of default firewall installation # > install_type initial_install > system_type standalone > partitioning explicit > filesys c0t0d0s0 2048 / > filesys c0t0d0s1 1024 /swap > filesys c0t0d0s3 1024 /var > filesys c0t0d0s7 10 /unassigned > cluster SUNWCXall add > package SUNWadm5u add > package SUNWadm5r add > package SUNWsadmc add > package SUNWsadmo add > package SUNWsadml add > package SUNWadmsm add > package SUNWmd add > package SUNWmdg add > package SUNWmdn add > > I have searched high & low for ideas of how to fix this problem, before > posting this message. > > Your help would be very much appreciated > > Andy _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Tue Jul 29 07:04:58 2003
