SUMMARY: /, /usr, swap ...submirrors in error but system is not down

Thanks to David Harrington for his response.     
Summary:    The drive is going or has gone bad.  Physically replace the
drive with another of the same drive type.  Until I do so, anything else
I do is futile. 

Original message posted follows:  
Scenario:  Solaris 2.6 system, using Solstice Disksuite to mirror
contents of one disk to another. Server Ultra Enterprise 3000  

Problem:  Half of my /, /usr, swap, /opt, /usr/openwin and /home
mirror
are in a state of "Needs maintenance".  All of these slices are on the
same internal sun drive.  I have tried to metareplace these submirrors
however, each fails with an I/O error such as the following:   
  
# ./metareplace -e d1 c1t0d0s0
metareplace: harrison.Schev.EDU: /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0: I/O error

I received error messages on 5/26 and 5/27 but haven't received any
additional error messages since 5/27.  A sample of the error messages
follows below in bold.  My question is do I approach resolution to
this
as if I am recovering from a boot device failure (ex: replace the
disk,
format it, metareplace to enable the new submirrors) even though the
system is not and has not gone down?
