It looks like the 10/100 cards are rock-solid, but the gigabit cards may have problem when trying to use Jumbo frames. Positive feedback also for Syskonnect (http://www.syskonnect.com). However, now Sun has a UTP Gigabit card (Sun GigaSwift ethernet UTP I believe ), which is reasonably priced.
