Hi, I found the problem myself, it was from the RTFM category : the help pages from Netscape Communicator 7 explain how to add a helper application: you need to specify the path to the application that it must launch for a certain MIME type / extension. It nowhere tells you to add the argument '%s' behind that file path, as it uses to be in all other Netscape versions so far (see .mailcap, e.g.) Well done of myself, and this on a Friday afternoon. Imagine... Rob -----Original Message----- From: Rob De Langhe To: 'sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org' Sent: 04-04-2003 14:05 Subject: Netscape 7 on Solaris9 helper apps do not start Hi, I have Netscape Communicator 7.0 on Solaris-9, and want to configure a helper app to view PostScript files, but they fail with a popup (from NS) "/tmp/SL210_211_OH.ps could not be opened, because an unknown error occured. Sorry about that. Try saving to disk first and then opening the file." The file "/tmp/SL210_211_OH.ps" exists on disk, and in my preferences of NS I have put Extension: ps File-type: application/ps Handled by: /usr/local/bin/gv %s When I try to view this PS file from my browser, the browser shows a popup telling me that it's downling the PS file and will open it with the help application '/usr/local/bin/gv %s', but then I get the popup error msg, and if I run "ls -lu /usr/local/bin/gv" I see that this program is not even accessed! I even did launch my browser from the command line with the "-debug" option, but that doesn't print any messages after the browser started up. How to debug this any further?
