Thanks to Richard Skelton for his gentle 'nudge' to remind me that the symptoms are quite useful with the solution. Anyway, 2nd attempt....... The problem was: Hopefully someone will have come across these issues before and can help. We have a Sparc 20 that has died and we have a Sparc 5 that we could use to get us up and running, however on inserting the boot disk and attempting a boot it is unable to find le0 and/or motherboard SCSI controllers. Is there anyway that /dev and /devices an be rebuilt so that we can use the Sparc 5 disks to boot from. The solution: Many thanks to the following for their contributions. Casper Dik, Michael Auria, Steve Maher, Charles Homan, Marc Sheldon, Steven Hogarth, Pablo Jejcic, Matthew Darcy, Pascal Grostabussiat, Peter Stokes, Roman Pestka, Adam Kirby, Ian Pease. It would appear that the Sun website has a slightly different solution to the one that Casper supplied - but, Casper, that's the one that worked - thanks. The solution appeared to be: =========================================================== echo '#path_to_inst_bootstrap1' > /etc/path_to_inst reboot -- -r =========================================================== For your infomation: Sun list it as "echo '#path_to_inst_bootstrap_1' > /etc/path_to_inst" (Note the extra underscore between bootstrap and 1) Again many thanks as you all were telling me roughly the same things.
