Hi managers, I would like to thank all that responded to my question. The answers is that /etc/mnttab is created dynamically during the boot process. A reboot fixed the problem. It appears that Sharity-Light was written for an older version and does not work well on Solaris 8. I tested Sharity (not the light version) now which works great and does not crush /etc/mnttab.
