Thanks to Brian Leveille who confirmed it was probably a patching issue. Applied the latest round of patches from sun (8_Recommended.zip) and it seems to have solved the problem. Sun's XNTPD and public domain NTP are no longer slewing the clock +/- 30 seconds every so often. I do not know the exact patch that solved the problem, but did see one patch to the effect of : Hummingbird IIe consistently runs fast. Regards, Kevin. ---------------------------------------------- From: "Kevin Stussman" <kevins@solium.com> To: <sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org> Subject: Netra X1 and Time (NTP) Problems Date: Tue, 4 Mar 2003 11:44:24 -0700 Netra X1 and Time (NTP) Problems I have two Netra X1s that both seem to have the same problem. Basically, the time on the server jumps around fairly frequently (with corresponding messages generated by XNTPD (comes with Solaris) and NTP (public domain)). Normally this is only mildly bothersome, but one of the servers panic'd and the date was set to something like Jan 1907 (or similar, I was not there for the actual outage). All of our other Suns (280Rs) run the public domain NTP software just fine. Is there a known problem with the Netras and its clock? I did find a "sort-of" related patch, but wanted to get more feedback before blanketing patches : Patch-ID# 111092-03 : Synopsis: Netra X1 time of day driver. I have Patch: 111092-02 installed, but 111092-03 I would guess is newer. Thanks for any tips / pointers...gut feel says this is a hardware clock / OS problem. Kevin. Here are the messages that come from the most recent version of NTPD.
