Thank you to the following people for there fast responses. - Hichael Morton - Mark Butscher - David Newton Now I have a better idea how to proceed. My Question: > I have different Sun Fire V100. All connected to the same switch. > Each solaris installation done by the same flash archive but > personalized with different IP addresses of course. They are > not yet in production mode: no special processes/cron jobs > installed. > > With an interval of a few days just one system sends following > message to /var/adm/messages: > > Jan 12 14:08:56 master dmfe: [ID 247303 kern.notice] NOTICE: dmfe1: PHY 1 link down > Jan 12 14:08:56 master dmfe: [ID 247303 kern.notice] NOTICE: dmfe1: PHY 1 link down > Jan 12 14:08:57 master dmfe: [ID 426308 kern.info] dmfe1: PHY 1 link up 100 Mbps Full-Duplex > > All other systems running smoothly! Any idea for the reason? > Is it possible somehow to stress test the LAN interfaces? Answers: ----- sunvts can stress test your entire system ftp can test the connection link down/up this is not necessarily a bad thing once a week once a day once an hour once a minute check all network connections patch cable is it bad is it loose (1/32 can break a connection) are the connectors good improper cramping broken, missing, or bent tines ethernet wiring in the wall good and solid connections? at the patch panel at the hub/switch hub/switch good port bad port failing port hub/switch failure go from the easiest to accomplish to the most difficult UNLESS you have a reason to believe it is localized. swap cable for know good change port in the switch use another jack etc. ----- Possibly the switch port that V100 is plugged into is hard set to half/full duplex, where as your NIC card is set to autonegotiate. Check your ndd settings to see how the NIC is set and make sure it is the same (either both are hard coded, or both are auto detect) as the switch port. ----- Is duplexing set to 100 FDX or auto on your switch? It could be something as lame as a bad cable too. ---- _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Tue Jan 14 02:18:01 2003
