Subject: Cannot mount root on /pseudo/md@0:0,0,blk fstype ufs

Hi All,

I had a few issues building a mirrored system, and have just put back my old
vfstab, however now when i try first boot i get

Cannot mount root on /pseudo/md@0:0,0,blk fstype ufs

and Panics, and boot loops.

I have again boot cdrom -s - mounted /etc in /a to check the vfstab is now
correct and back using disk device paths rather than md paths,

Clues ?

Thanks

Laurence

I'm looking for comprehensive documentation of valid

Particularly interested in rootopts syntax - is it
possible to have multiple values for rootopts ?

Thanks,

Subject: Summary: How to change the name of a network interface device
From: wen@bs2.qnes.nec.co.jp

Hello,
Many thanks to Mr rich cole, Claudio Lopes, et al.
Following your suggestion, I create a symbolic link by
#ln -s /dev/abc /devices/pseudo/clone\@0\:eri
and make a file /etc/hostname.abc0.
After reboot the interface name is changed from eri0 to abc0.

#However, if FW-1 of checkpoint is installed in the box previously,
the interface could not be up even "accept abc" is added to
 /etc/fw.boot/ifdev.

Any idea?

Best regards,

Subject: SUMMARY : Print as Landscape orientation thru JetAdmin

Hi Mates at sumanagers...

Thanks a bunch for your helps to subject as above. Finally I found
the Log which recorded about the problem (It's been happened before).

SUMMARY:

Problem: How could I setup permanently a network printer as landscape
printer ?? (without interve the hardware, it lets as default)

Config: Solaris 5.6 running in E450/E3500 box
HP JetAdmin Utility for UNIX (Rev. D.02.10)
                     HP LaserJet 8100

Solution: 1. Define the networked printer in /etc/hosts
                # more /etc/hosts
                # ....
                # ....
                # 172.27.33.30 HP8100

            2. Define the spooler thru JetAdmin (for example HP8100L)

                   *************************************************

                  1) Configuration (super-user only):
                     - configure printer, add printer to spooler

                  .......
                  .......
                  .......

                  5) Printer Status:
                     - show printer status, location, and contact

            3. Make sure those above works fine

            4. Go to the /etc/lp/interfaces/model.orig/HP8100L

            5. Modify the file using vi, then type /$4

            6. insert into options="Landscape raw lpi8 fp12"

            7. insert into options="$ options $5"

One thing you can do is install HP JetDirect SW on your Solaris box,
(HP moves it around on their website, you'll find it with a search)
set up the Solaris box as a spooler for the printer.

This will set up HP's filter script (/etc/lp/interfaces).

To: sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org

My definitive answer was from Hichael Morton -
you can't.
you have to remove the old disk (and its wwn) and
install the new disk
(and its wwn) as the boot disk.
there is an infodoc on this but i am afraid that i
don't have it
anymore. (i no longer support the e3500d)
you should be able to search the sunhelp archives for
sun's support
areas and find it.

what we ended up doing with all of our exx00 series
machine is booting
from and external cabinet. this, among other things,
avoided the wwn
issue on the boot drives.

Thanks

I'm getting some conflicting info here. I have been told that you can
only create 2 LUN's on a T3/ T3+, but a colleague assures me that you
can create more, using 'host virtualization' software. Can anyone
concur? What is the software, or has he just had a little too much
Christmas spirit ;)

Do the following (if you don't want to remap your CDROM at OBP)

boot /iommu/sbus/espdma@f,400000/esp@f,800000/sd@2,0:d -s

The system nows boot from the cdrom, unfortunately, after booting and
working for many hours to get the server back. I discovered too many
drives already crashed, have to rebuild the system.

(four controllers four array of drives, two arrays of drives on two
controllers totally wiped-out due to power failure, yes they're on UPS).

Ok, it seems some of the drives on the controller is down (*maybe* the
controller is seperate from the mb) but that doesn't explains why I
can't boot off the cdrom to run fsck or troubleshoot more...probe-scsi
sees the cdrom just fine (below).

Subject: DAT on Sparc 5

I have an old Sparc 5 running SunOS 4.1.3_U1B (don't ask) and would like to
add a Sun external DDS-2 tape drive for backups. Does anyone know if SunOS
4.1.3_U1B supports this drive natively? Does it require a kernel rebuild,
or will it natively support it?

Thanks,
Thomas Carter

Subject: Installing Solaris8 OE CD 2/2

From: sa335@daimlerchrysler.com

Hi,
I am customizing a "Bootable Solaris 8 Jumpstart CD" (we have Network
Constraints to have a jumpstart server) with my own rules and profiles and
it works well. I have no problem installing the server with the first CD.
However, I encounter a problem while I try to install the Second CD. The
server does not prompt me to insert CD 2/2. If I try and install CD 2/2
with the command "installer" (under /cdrom/cdrom0), the GUI comes up for
"LIVE UPGRADE" instead of Software Installation. I don't see the options to
install all the packages in CD 2/2. Did any one come across such situation,
your help is highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Saif
