Well...nothing is ever as straightforward as it looks but here's what I've gotten so far from this experience: Don't use the Install CD for Solaris 8 if you already have something installed on the system, start right off with CD 1 of 2. It was suggested that I just use format to repartition it now but so far it just just keeps coming back when I reboot. However, I see that my partitions are out of order on the other Solaris 8 box, probably for the same reason and that doesn't seem to be a problem. The swap cylinders on that box are 0-362 even though it's on partition 1 and I'll probably never be happy with swap out on the last cylinders on this machine, even though I have very little real understanding of what that means. It seems bad and so I think I'll reinstall, a decision that would require more thought if I was sitting in a frigid computer room instead of having it here in my home office for now.
