Greetings, It appears that setting tcp_time_wait_interval to 60000 is a common practice. I have received different feedback on the two tcp parameters: tcp_close_wait_interval and tcp_time_wait_interval , some say they the same and some say they are not; reading the description of each parameter, suggests that they are very similar or the same. I confirmed that Solaris 8 dynamically adjusts the number of pseudo terminals (pts) so there is no need for pty_cnt in /etc/system file. Many thanks to everyone who replied, specially: Darren Dunham John Leadeham Tim Chipman ---- Vahid Moghaddasi sunman@ureach.com wrote ---- > To: " Sun-Managers" <sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org> > From: Vahid Moghaddasi <sunman@ureach.com> > Reply-To: <sunman@ureach.com> > Subject: socket: All ports in use > Date: Tue, 15 Oct 2002 15:14:38 -0400 > > > Hi everyone, > We have a mixed solaris 2.6 and 8 web server > environment (in process of upgrading), every > time they push a large amount of data using > rdist, they get the "socket: All ports in > use" error on solaris 2.6 systems. > I know that I have to either increase the > number of pts's or lower the TCP time_wait. > Here are my questions: > 1- Is it safe to just lower > tcp_time_wait_interval to 60000 on all web > servers? > 2- Are tcp_close_wait_interval and > tcp_time_wait_interval the same thing with > different names on different Solaris versions? > 3- What if I add: set pty_cnt=256 and the > above parameter on both solaris 8 and > solaris 2.6? what do I lose? > > Any suggestion would help, > Thank you and I will summarize. > Vahid. > > ________________________________________________ > Get your own "800" number > Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more > http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag > _______________________________________________ > sunmanagers mailing list > sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org > http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagers > > ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Thu Oct 17 15:07:23 2002
