Hello! Thanks to Casper Dik for fast answer: You need this entry in /etc/vfstab: fd - /dev/fd fd - no - then run "mount /dev/fd". The entry was already in the vfstab, but since the directory was non-existent, it could not be mounted. So I just created the directory and mounted. Of course I still don't know why the directory disappeared in the first place. So what. /jonas > -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- > Fren: Jonas Bleberg > Skickat: den 5 september 2002 09:58 > Till: sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org > Dmne: files in /dev missing causing dmesg to fail > > hello! > > I have a "titaned" Solaris 8 installation where the dmesg command cannot be executed. dmesg fails with the following error message: > > # dmesg > /dev/fd/3: /dev/fd/3: cannot open > # > > I am not surprised since /dev/fd does not exist. > > I can see in /var/sadm/install/contents that /dev/fd should be installed in package SUNWcsd. I can also see the files /dev/stdin, /dev/stdout and /dev/stderr should be symbolic links to /dev/fd/? but they are non-existent too. > > I have not rebooted the machine since it is in production. > > Everything seems to be working just fine except for dmesg, but I want to be sure this won't lead to really big problems later on. > > > I will summarize. > > /jonas > > > > Jonas Bleberg > Cell Network Sverige AB > Kruthusgatan 17,6 > S-411 04 Gvteborg > jonas.blaberg@cellnetwork.com > office: +46-(0)31-739 84 54 > mobile: +46-(0)709-95 00 68 _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Thu Sep 5 05:18:50 2002
