You know, I have messed with this problem and searched for answers to it for months. Less than 24 hours after posting my query to this list I have at least one answer that works! You folks are great! Thanks to Bertrand_Hutin, Mika Tuupola, and another anonymous respondent. Original post: -------------- Hi, folks, I have a problem with DiskSuite 4.2.1 on Solaris 8 complaining that slices on different disks are overlapping slices, when of course they are not. I believe that this problem is due to non-Sun disk drives without unique serial numbers on the drive. I found some info on the internet that indicated that DiskSuite 4.2 does not have this problem. Questions: Anyone know if (where) it is possible to obtain DS 4.2? Is it possible to give the drives unique "serial" numbers as if they were Sun drives? Any other ideas? Will summarize of course. -------------- My solution was to add an entry to /kernel/drv/sd.conf to tell DiskSuite that the drive serial numbers for that drive model are bogus. Works for me. The two other solutions were a copy of DS 4.2 (is reputed to work, but I don't know) and a program called rwdevid which didn't work for me. A couple of things I read suggested that it might not work with Solaris 8. Again, I don't know if that works in other situations either. In any case, thanks, guys! -- Steve Sandau IS Technician TMA Bath, Maine _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Wed Aug 28 19:31:54 2002
