Thanks for everybody's input, it was actually something in one of the responses that lead us to the right solution. Turns out that between the install and the patches, there are 12 different libCstd.a and 2 libCstd.so.1. Once we determined which one we needed (SUNWSpro/WS6U2/v8plus/), added that to LD_LIBRARY_PATH and recompiled, everything seems to be fine. Never question success is my motto so I'm not even going to try to see if any of the others (outside of /usr/lib) would have worked. Thanks again for all the help.
