Subject: disabling the power key

Managers,
How may I disable the power button on the keyboard of a Sun
server?
Thanks.

REPLIES:
cd to /usr/openwin/lib and there you will find a file called
"speckeysd.map" at the end of this file you will see lines like these or
very similar to
these:

SunVideoRaiseBrightness r $OPENWINHOME/bin/contrast -k -u
1
SunVideoLowerBrightness r $OPENWINHOME/bin/contrast -k -d
1
SunPowerSwitch -
$OPENWINHOME/bin/sys-suspend
SunPowerSwitchShift - $OPENWINHOME/bin/sys-suspend -n

Just put a pound sign in front of "SunPowerSwitch" and also
in front of "SunPowerSwitchShift" and save the file. After you have
saved the file you will need to reset machine of restart powerd.

Simply by removing the execute bit on the program itself !

chmod a-x /usr/openwin/bin/sys-suspend

Darryl,

Try this (you must be root):

1. Open the file /usr/openwin/lib/speckeysd.map
2. Comment out the line below -

   # SunPowerSwitch - $OPENWINHOME/bin/sys-suspend

3. log out and log back in

Now when the Power button is hit, the message window asking if the
suspend mode
is desired will not come up any more (the default button is 'suspend',
which
will switch off the power).

chimo,

=power%20button

Also I believe if you have a server with an actual key switch, turning
it to the "locked" position should prevent that button from working, I
know for sure that it prevents the use of the stop key combinations from
working (like Stop-a)
