Many, many thanks to the people who replied: David Foster Rainer Heilke Vincent McIntyre Justin Stringfellow Buddy Lumpkin Dennis Martens Charles Homan James Vandevegt There appears to be a problem with cdrecord and IDE drives on a sun and the consensus is that it's sun's problem and not one that Jurg can readily fix for cdrecord. Following several people's advice, we installed Sun's cdrw which comes from the supplemental software cd and we have used it in conjunction with mkisofs using the following commands: mkisofs -J -r -L -V name-of-volume -o name-of-iso.iso name-of-dir cdrw -i -v -d /dev/rdsk/c0t2d0s2 -p speed name-of-iso.iso We've successfully burned a couple of CDs so far and it appears to be stable.
