Thanks for all the answers and suggestions. From past installs, on other favours of UNIX, I usually broke each file system on a separate volume/slice of the disk. But recently, I would think the best way these days would be: swap on the first slice /var - on it's own slice due to the log files / - root for the rest. Simple and easy.
