Sorry for the late summary, I wanted to test everything before I post this. I have received numerous replies and mostly suggested to run sys-unconfig then reboot, that method of course works fine if the system is in your basement and you are playing with it, but is the system is miles away without a console connection, that will be a bit difficult to do. The following files are sufficient to change the hostname, however SMC and ldap will fail, you will have to use their administration console to set the new name. There will be lots of errors on the console before you can actually change the name.
