Thanks to the following folks for their input and suggestions: Steve Mickeler Robert Kelly Tristan Ball Paul Richards Opinions on this subject are varied it would seem. Some say "Just RAID it and go for it"; still others view production as a sacred space and would use reman gear for non-production use only. What is clear is that there does not seem to be any hard published data, even MTBF comparisons, that can be pointed to for justifying one course of action or the other. Thanks again for your time. There is a debate as to whether or not we should go with remanufactured drives in order to save money. Sigh. I think this is not a good idea for production equipment, but management wants DATA to base the decision on. I have yet to find any good concrete numbers on MTBF comparisons. Does anyone have experience or data that they can share with justification regarding this issue?
