This problem was fixed on all systems by downgrading to Perl 5.005_03. The problem seems to be focused around changes to the perl header file XSUB.h in 5.6 and up http://www.perldoc.com/perl5.6/pod/perlxstut.html hing to try is setting POLLUTE=1 on the: > perl Makefile.PL > step.
