back in July i asked what the "mkdir: Failed to make directory <dirname>: Invalid argument" error message meant. Eric Martin emailed me over the weekend saying he had the same trouble. many apologies to all for never posting a summary. the fix was to replace the mkdir on the affected system (Solaris 7) with mkdir from another system. that there was a difference was evident from ls -l. the correct version's size is 10264. i can only surmize that i missed a patch somewhere along the way. again, my apologies for not posting the resolution. /max original post (thanks, Eric!) ~~~~~~~~~~~ hey gurus, ever see this message before? this error comes and goes. >cd /export/public >mkdir stuff mkdir: Failed to make directory stuff: Invalid argument about our system: > uname -a SunOS beatsme 5.7 Generic_106541-16 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250 the filesystem is a disksuite mirror on a (lightly used) SUN36G disk: > df -o i /export/public Filesystem iused ifree %iused Mounted on /dev/md/dsk/d4 1376 4335264 0% /export/public and df -k: # df -k /export/public Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on /dev/md/dsk/d4 35009161 5147698 29511372 15% /export/public fsck runs cleanly. i see nothing in the logs. any insight would be greatly appreciated. this machine is rapidly becoming very high profile, which of course means we're under the gun. thanks in advance! /max _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Tue Mar 19 12:55:26 2002
