Thanks All,

Cron process exited for some reason and left the FIFO lock file behind, (
/etc/cron.d/FIFO) simply removing this and restarting cron via the binary
(/usr/sbin/cron)or the rc script, it then ran fine.

Also a lesson to me in the value of reading man pages !!! as i was told by
so may of you !

Thanks

Laurence

Hi All,

Due to a failed cron run,( local system backup never ran !) investigation
came to;

cron may not be running - call your system administrator

root@enba-of:/etc/rc2.d # ps -ef | grep cron

.. nothing

root@enba-of:/etc/rc2.d # ./S75cron start
root@enba-of:/etc/rc2.d # ps -ef | grep cron

.. nothing !!

root@enba-of:/etc/rc2.d # /usr/sbin/cron
root@enba-of:/etc/rc2.d # ! cannot start cron; FIFO exists Wed Feb 27
10:08:08 2002
! ******* CRON ABORTED ******** Wed Feb 27 10:08:08 2002

Not come accross this before, any ideas ??

Thanks
