Hello! The problem with restoring ufsdumps from an IDE system (U10) on an FC-AL system (Sun-Fire-280R, see initial mail below) was due to the lack of QLogic drivers. To install these packages I followed this scheme: I booted on CD (boot cdrom -s), mounted the file systems (on /a), installed SUNWqlc and SUNWqlcx from a second CD drive (using pkgadd -R /a ...), rebooted and I was up and running. Thank you all who supported me with several hints and ideas. /jonas bleberg -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Fren: Jonas Bleberg Skickat: den 10 januari 2002 11:09 Till: sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org Dmne: Problem cloning a disk using different bus-systems Hello! I have an installation of Solaris 8 made on an U10 (i.e using IDE-disks). This installation has been ufsdumped to tape. I booted a new Sun-Fire-280R on Sol 8 CD, partitioned one of the FC-AL disks, created filesystems, and made the ufsrestore. And then I executed "installboot /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0". So far so good. When rebooting it panics with the following error message: ok boot -v Boot device: /pci@8,600000/SUNW,qlc@4/fp@0,0/disk@0,0 File and args: -v Size: 338120+89970+75890 Bytes SunOS Release 5.8 Version Generic_108528-12 64-bit Copyright 1983-2001 Sun Microsystems, Inc. Resetting ... As far as I understand it finds the kernel and loads it but when it tries to mount the root file system it cannot find it. I have installed the maintenance update for Sol 8 4/01 (using 2 CD-ROMs) with no result. I have also used the scheme used by Marcelino Mata when cloning FC-AL-disks (http://www.sunmanagers.org/pipermail/sunmanagers/2001-March/002201.html) with no result. SUNWfctl and SUNWfctlx are installed. probe-scsi-all shows this output: LiD HA LUN --- Port WWN --- ----- Disk description ----- 0 0 0 21000004cf2ffaa1 SEAGATE ST336605FSUN36G 0438 1 1 0 21000004cf27dbd8 SEAGATE ST336605FSUN36G 0438 when I look in the directory (on the root disk) called /devices/pci@8,600000/SUNW,qlc@4/fp@0,0 all device files starts with ssd@ - not disk@ (see the panic message above). Is there anybody who has a clue on this one? /jonas Jonas Bleberg Cell Network Sverige AB Kruthusgatan 17,6 S-411 04 Gvteborg jonas.blaberg@cellnetwork.com @office: +46-(0)31-707 69 85 not@office: +46-(0)709-95 00 68 _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagers _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagers _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagers _______________________________________________ sunmanagers mailing list sunmanagers@sunmanagers.org http://www.sunmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/sunmanagersReceived on Thu Jan 10 10:38:11 2002
