SUMMARY: Need help with 8705 DX tape drive

Ok, thanks to all of you that replied. I got a few useful things to try,
some of which are detailed below. Mostly, I got confirmation that about
10G is on target for what I should be expecting here. I was also
recommended to check out Exabyte's site for an st.conf entry, which I had
already done. The most intriguing solution was from TED BACKHERMS
<DMVTJB@dmv.state.va.us>, who said:

        I use the /dev/rmt/0hbn device with the following st.conf and I
        get good use of my tapes in Networker. Can't say about ufsdump,
        however.

         "EXABYTE EXB-8505", "Exabyte EXB-8705 8mm Eliant 820","EXB-8SC";

        EXB-8SC = 1,0x29,0,0xce39,2,0x15,0x8c,1;

        This is on a 2.5.1 machine.

        I think the 0hbn spec is important, too, to prevent i/o errors
        which will cut your capacity under Networker.

This st.conf entry differs from the one Exabyte published on their web
site. The published entry looks like so:

        EXB-8SC = 1,0x29,0,0xce39,4,0x15,0x15,0x8c,0x8c,1;

Others suggested that I try 0c as my backup device, which I'll also give a
try.
