Sorry for the delayed summary; my E4500 and 5200 array finally
arrived last week. Again, my current setup was a 4500 with 1 A5000.
The 5000 has 4 GBICs. I have 2 HBAs, 1 in I/O board 1 and the other
in I/O board 5. The new equipment to be added was 2 new HBAs and
a A5200.
To begin, I disconnected the fiber cables from the 5000. I added
the 2 new HBAs ( 1 in I/O board 1 and the other in board 5). I
connected all 8 fiber cables to my arrays. Powered everything back on
and did a `boot -r`. Just like everyone said, volume manager came up
without a hitch...for the most part. I was able to see all my original data
stored in VM, and format saw all of my disks. However, when I started the
vxva GUI, it reported some of my disks inaccurately. Since my controllers
changed due to the `boot -r`, some of the disks still reported that they
were using the old disk controller. (Note: my old controllers were c0/c1
[dual path] and c3/c4. They were changed to c0/c3 and c5/c7 respectively)
However,
I still could read/write to these original volumes. I did a `boot -r` again.
I started vxva and this time everything was reported correctly. During the
boot sequence, I noticed that "vxvm is starting in boot mode" runs BEFORE
the dev and devices directories are configured. Perhaps this was the
cause...
Anyway, all is well. My thanks go out to the sun managers as well as to the
people who responded on the veritas list. Thanks!!
