Thank you to all for the quick responses. I've been literally flooded.
Richard Ashton suggested I RTFM.
Several people (Kevin Buterbaugh, Tim Evans, Sabrina Downard,Dan Wilkinson)
suggested that I check the TMOUT env variable in ksh. I read the man on
that, and it states that the system does set a default value for that
variable. I've explicitly set it to 0 and we'll see what happens.
Others - Matthew Stier, Alan Reichart - suggested I check for idled. We
have a very vanilla installation and don't have that.
Michael Grice suggested I check and see if the box is behind a firewall and
to check out tcp keepalive intervals. That might be a possibility - I know
it's on a VPN behind a firewall, and if TMOUT doesn't work that's what I'll
check.
Again, thanks to all. Despite having been in the business for a long time,
I'm new to Sun and it's a little frustrating when Sun does something
different from the other vendors and you have to track it down.
