Hi all,

I did not get a solution to fix this problem. I ended up getting
a temporary ip address for my network that I want to do builds on. I
set the server up with this address, and the builds work. No
I have to get a permenant address.

It seems that although the client and server are physically
on the same network, I still can't boot when the client and
server have different subnets.

I only got a few responses, and I tried each of the suggestions, but
none of them worked. As per the suggestions, I tried changing
the netmask address in several different places, but the broadcast
address never changed.

These suggestions were:

- you have to tell the boot server that it is a boot server by modifying the
/etc/bootparm file with the jumpstart directory.

- The boot on jumpstart server has a hardcoded netmask value that is
determined at install time. Try changing the netmask in this file:

  <install>/<version>/Tools/Boot

- use the sysidcfg file to specify your netmask

- the broadcast address of the client is wrong it should be
192.168.15.255 so the client is being given the wrong netmask.
I am not sure where this netmask comes from perhaps /etc/netmasks on the
  server or sysidconfig.

  clientname -> 192.168.11.255 BPARAM C WHOAMI? 192.168.11.50 (retransmit)

Thanks to Matthew Stier, Richard Cove, and Bruce Wilkins for responding.

Hi,
I'm trying to boot a solaris7 machine with jumpstart. The client and
the server supposedly on the same supernetted network. I've been told
that these machines do not have any routers between them and should
be considered the same network.

The IP of the client is 192.168.11.50./20
The IP of the server is 192.168.10.186/20, netmask 255.255.240.0

I can boot fine when the IP of the client is on the same subnet
that the server is in. (ie, the server has an interface 192.168.32.30
and if I use an IP for the client on 192.168.32 it works ok)

When I boot off the network, I get output similar to the following:
hostname: clientname
root server: servername
root directory /jumpstart/install_2.7/Solaris_2.7/Tools/Boot
SunOS Release 5.7 ...
Copyright 1983-1998....
WARNING: no bootparam server responding.

I put bootparamd into debug mode and got the following output:
# msg 1: group = 260 mib_id = 0 length = 128
msg 2: group = 261 mib_id = 0 length = 132

A snoop on the server for the correct interface gives:

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestions on
what is going on?

Thanks!
