Solution:
Thanks to all who replied. Most suggested also setting the following parameters:
npty
sadcnt
nautopush
I was also directed to a FAQ by Casper Dik of Sun on www.stokely.com. He basically stated these parameters did not have to
be set; only pt_cnt was needed. He was very adamant about this fact. He felt these were irrelevant 99.9% of the time.
The final solution was offerred by Sun. We use Disksuite and one of our root mirrors needed maintenance. Apparently this can cause
some kernel parameters not to take. We didn't get a great explanation of what was happening. After syncing the mirrors and rebooting
pt_cnt showed 128.
