Cheers to all those who helped. The key was to do the probe-scsi after a;

OK> reset

or from a cold boot. You need to make sure you have auto-boot? false set or
you find yourself having to stop-A again and cursing etc.

A boot -r after finding the disk on the scsi chain will sort it out. (did
got me) My scsi chain was all arse over elbow.

All basic stuff, thanks!

Annie

Subject: Need to probe disks from OK prompt (sun4m )

# uname -a
SunOS SPARCserver 5.5.1 Generic_103640-29 sun4m sparc SUNW,Sun_4_600

The above box is a bit of a dinosaur. I recently moved it and in the process
had to unplug the external scsi drive and 8mm tape. Once it was all plugged
back in I booted up and get this;

/dev/rdsk/c0t5d0s0: No such file or directory
Can't stat /dev/rdsk/c0t5d0s0
/dev/rdsk/c0t5d0s0: CAN'T CHECK FILE SYSTEM.
/dev/rdsk/c0t5d0s0: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.

I took a look with format and the only disk I can see is;

AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
       0. c0t3d0 <SUN1.3G cyl 1965 alt 2 hd 17 sec 80>
          /iommu@f,e0000000/sbus@f,e0001000/dma@f,81000/esp@f,80000/sd@3,0

Which suggests to me that c0t5d0 has gone AWOL. I ran a probe-scsi at the OK
prompt and the box hung up. Had to switch it off.

Am I using the wrong commands to probe for the missing disk? Any ideas?

Cheers as always and I'll summarise.

Annie
