It turns out that I was doing everything right except for removing the
entries in /etc/system. The funny thing was that I knew that I should remove
them, but I thought that it only caused ugly output while booting like
forceload of ..... failed, and maybe some messages griping about not being
able to locate metadb's. Anyway, turns out there is a line in /etc/system
that changes the boot path and that was the major one that I had to remove.

Below I have included the responses from a few of the people that realized
what I was truly asking for:

I presume you have to comment out the line like this in /etc/system:

rootdev:/pseudo/md@0:0,10,blk

It is quite simple, here are the steps

1st make your /etc/vfstab file reflect the /dev/dsk instead of /dev/me/dsk ,
to revert back to filesystem
2nd in /etc/system you ned to remove the entry that talk about the bootdev
as md...

This can also be achieve through the disksuite GUI.

Buddy,

Get rid of the variables at the end of /etc/system, theay are clearly
created by the ODS install.

Greetings,

In addition to vfstab modifications from, say"/dev/md/dsk/d0" to
"/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0" (also look for mirrored swap partitions), you need to
comment out the metadevice rootdev and boot entries in /etc/system (look at
the very end of the file and you'll see the metadevice stuff), and to
completely prevent disksuite from starting up, rename or move out of the
startup directories /etc/rcS.d/S35SUNWmd.init and /etc/rc2.d/S95SUNWmd.sync

You can then use one of the mirror root disks as a plain old root disk.

Check your /etc/system file. There are a couple of lines that
start with "rootdev:" and "set md:mddb_bootlist1". Delete these
       lines.

                Hello All,

I am trying to find the procedure for un-mirroring the root
partition in
solstice disksuite. I tried booting from the original
underlying physical
c0t0d0s0 by editing vfstab and there is definitely more than
that involved
because it fails after loading the static kernel because
it's still
referencing a logical path containing 'md'.

                Thanks in advance.

                --Buddy
