Sun Managers:
I discovered the use of the -a option in pkgadd which allow the
use of an admin file to override the default features. The format
that I used is as follows:
basedir=default
runlevel=nocheck
conflict=quit
setuid=nocheck
action=nocheck
partial=quit
instance=unique
idepend=quit
rdepend=quit
space=quit
mail=
which worked nicely with the following command:
/usr/sbin/pkgadd -a ./response/noask_pkgadd -d ./apache.PKG -R ${ROOTDIR}
apache
(that was all on one line in case email chops it...)
noask_pkgadd was the file containing the above admin settings.
I also did run pkgask against a ColdFusion package and discovered the
contents
of the response file which are unique to the package you are installing. It
had
the format as follows:
INSTALLDIR=/opt
REGID=CF45ESL-XXXXXXXXXX
CLASSES=none cfadmin
WEBSERVER=apache
DOPLUGIN=y
NETSCAPEDIR=
NETSCAPECONFIG=
NETSCAPEVERSION=
APACHEDIR=/opt/apache
CGIDIR=
DOCROOT=/opt/apache/htdocs
CFOWNER=nobody
DOCFDOCS=n
CFDOCDIR=
DOCFEXAMPLES=n
DOBRIGHTTIGER=n
DOSITEMINDER=n
IPADDR=
IPPORT=
ADMDN=''
ROOTDN=''
SMFIRSTTIME=
so there seems no way to build a generic response file, because it
appears that the variables can be whatever the manufacturer chooses.

Subject: Q: What is the format for the response file / pkgadd
Hello Sun Managers:
I am trying to complete a hands off install of several desktops
using jumpstart and I keep running into the problem when trying
to perform a non-interactive pkgadd.
pkgask spits out the following when trying to create a response
file for a home-made package:
# pkgask -d . -r ./response apache
Processing package instance <apache> from </export/install/SPARC/Packages>
Apache for Sun SPARC Solaris
(Solaris 8) 1.3.12
pkgask: ERROR: package does not contain an interactive request script
Processing of request script failed.
No changes were made to the system.
I cannot find any info on the format of a request script either. I tried
to use as much information from the Automating Solaris Installations: A
Custom Jumpstart Guide to complete this project, but this is the second
wall I have hit that I cannot find a solution for.
Thanks in advance for your help or comments.
BTW: I am running Solaris 8
