Thank you to all who replied, several of you a second time, too!
The unanimous reply was to use SAR, the unix tool:
Are you using sar? If not, as root do a "crontab -e sys" and
uncomment the entries that are already there. That'll start the data
collection (in /var/adm/sa/sa99 where "99" is the day of the month).
Look
at the man page for sar to see all the options for viewing the data, but
the main ones are "sar -u" for CPU utilization, "sar -q" for run queue
lengths, "sar -g" for memory, and "sar -d" for disks.
Other programs which can also help you monitor your systems performance
include
sar (mentioned above; comes with solaris)
top (available at www.sunfreeware.com)
the SE toolkit (available at www.sunworld.com)
ProcTool (from sun, also available at www.sunfreeware.com)
vmstat (comes with solaris)
iostat (comes with solaris)
And there was a suggest that Patrol from BMC software <http://www.bmc.com/>
could
also do what I want, but it is not free, so I am looking into the freeware
tools first.
Even though I am using a perl store program, the perl program is not CGI, so
it doesn't
help me, but, if you are using perl and cgi then you should look into
mod_perl for
apache that will greatly increase your performance.
Thanks again for all the timely help!!!
