Thanks for the replies, but the one which nailed the
issue came from Giri Sekar.
Giri Suggested:
Write error 60 (rpc timed out) will only occur if the
file systems are
mounted soft. When mounting file systems read-write,
always mount the
file systems hard, never use the soft mount option,
which indeed turned out to be the culprit.
